Client Success: Streamlining the Financial Reporting Package
The Company has two separate businesses. It has a $50 million burial vault company, and a $320 million plastics company, with a Thermoforming and Injection Molding division. As the Company has grown through acquisitions, the sophistication of the Company’s financial reporting has not kept up.
The previous Controller utilized many Excel spreadsheets to solve the company’s reporting needs. These spreadsheets and other system limitations were not intuitive which made the financial consolidation and reporting very arduous, resulting in the month-end close taking up to 12 days. Further, it was difficult to review the root cause of financial results with plant managers due to the pitfalls of standard costing - confusing accounting variances, large absorption amounts and regular “recapitalization” of inventory.
